The Ballast is a set of four double-galvanized iron shackles, each weighing 700 grams, designed to anchor the submerged corners of a GSE Inflatables anti-jellyfish pool. When there is a slight surface current or when water salinity is high, the pool can experience increased buoyancy or drift. Placing one ballast weight at each bottom corner keeps the pool horizontal and in position.
The Ballast is recommended in two situations: first, when there is a light surface current that causes the pool to shift position or tilt while anchored to the yacht; and second, in areas with high salinity where the increased salt content raises the buoyancy of the pool beyond normal. In calm, sheltered anchorages with average salinity the pool will typically hold position without ballast, but having the set on board as a precaution is always advisable.
Each of the four 700-gram galvanized iron shackles clips to one of the four bottom corners of the anti-jellyfish pool using the integrated attachment loops on the pool frame. The shackles require no tools to attach or remove and are designed for repeated installation and removal without rust or corrosion thanks to their double galvanized coating.
The ballast weights are heavy enough to hold the bottom of the pool in position but light enough to not pull the pool below its natural floating depth. The total ballast set weighs 2.8kg (4 x 700g), which applies gentle downward pressure on the pool corners without submerging the pool walls. The pool will maintain its normal water level and structural shape with the ballast attached.
