The single most important maintenance habit is a thorough freshwater rinse after every use. Salt crystals, sand and organic matter left on PVC surfaces accelerate surface degradation and, if allowed to accumulate in valve housings or seam channels, can compromise airtightness over time. Use low-pressure fresh water and a soft brush — never a pressure washer at close range, which can delaminate coatings and stress welded seams.
Allow the inflatable to dry completely before folding or rolling for stowage. Packing a wet inflatable traps moisture against the fabric, creating ideal conditions for mould and PVC plasticiser loss. Inspect valves, seams and attachment hardware during each post-use rinse — early detection of micro-abrasions allows minor repairs before they become significant problems.
UV Protection and Mid-Season Care
