How Does the Inflatable Platform Work?

How Does the Inflatable Platform Work?

An inflatable platform is one of the most versatile and practical additions available for any yacht or superyacht. It extends usable space over the water without any permanent modification to the vessel, provides a stable surface for water sports, sunbathing and equipment handling, and stows in a fraction of the space occupied by rigid alternatives. GSE Inflatables has engineered its platform range specifically for the demands of the luxury marine environment.

Core Construction: Drop-Stitch Technology and Marine PVC

The inflatable platform from GSE Inflatables uses drop-stitch construction, where thousands of polyester threads connect the upper and lower skins of the platform at a precisely defined distance. Unlike conventional single-chamber inflatables that round out under pressure, drop-stitch panels remain flat and board-like, creating a rigid working surface capable of supporting substantial distributed loads without flex or bounce. The non-slip deck surface is achieved through a textured PVC coating that performs reliably in both wet and dry conditions.

Deployment, Mooring and Integration with Other Equipment

The platform reaches working pressure — typically 15 to 20 PSI — in eight to twelve minutes. The platform connects to the yacht via D-rings and mooring lines at each corner, distributing load evenly and preventing the platform from pivoting in a crosswind. The same D-rings allow the platform to be attached to a yacht pool or sea pool, creating an integrated beach club layout. For the largest on-water installations, combining the platform with the boat pool maximises the combined footprint significantly.

Practical Uses, Maintenance and Custom Configurations

The platform serves as a stable launch point for kayaks, paddleboards, eFoils and dive equipment. Post-use care is straightforward: rinse with fresh water, dry before stowing, and inspect the valves and D-ring attachment points periodically. Many owners also add one of the inflatable docks for superyachts from the GSE Inflatables range, or complement the platform with a boat slide for maximum entertainment value. Bespoke dimensions and colours are available through the custom inflatable design service. To discuss which platform specification best suits your vessel, contact our team.
